Have We Come As Far As We Thought - 1893 Words

Have We Come as Far as We Thought? On September 11th, 2001 the United States encountered one of the worst terrorist attacks in its history. Four planes were hijacked that day by nineteen men. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers in New York, one was flown into the Pentagon Building located in Washington D.C. and the last one abruptly crashed down in a Pennsylvania field; it was reported that the plane was on course for the White House. The death toll for that day was nearly 3,000 people (Young, 10). Before that day the United States had limited involvement in cases involving terrorist. The terrorist would be taken down by the government one way or another. Due to this new thought, terroristâ€℠¢ have become much smarter when they plan their attacks and missions. After September 11th there have been many cases to back up this suspicion. Twelve years after the 2001 attack, in 2013 another terrorist attack took place, this time in Boston, Massachusetts. This event is referred to as the Boston Marathon Bombing of April 15, 2013. A major difference between the attacks was that one was disguised and one was not. When the attack took place the government had a pretty good clue as to who they thought was behind the attack because of their past history with Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. They assumed that it must have been Osama Bin Laden due to their history with him, and later their assumptions turned out to be correct. When the Boston Marathon Bombing took place the government at first had no idea what to think or who any of the possible suspects were. The reasoning behind their confusion was that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the terrorist behind the attack, was so well camouflaged that no one suspected him. Before the attack took place Tsarnaev got together with accomplices that he already knew in the United States and formulated a plan with them. This
